Who
is Martin O’Malley?
Martin O'Malley is one of many
democrat candidates running for president in the 2016 election. According to
MartinOMalley.com, Martin O'Malley is the "former Governor of Maryland,
Mayor of Baltimore, and a city councilor," (MartinOMalley.com). O'Malley
was born in Washington, D.C. on January 18th 1963. O’Malley is one
of six children in his family. O’Malley attended and graduated from Catholic
University and in 1988 received his law degree from the University of Maryland.
He was appointed as an Assistant State’s Attorney that same year. At the age of
28 he became a part of the Baltimore City Council, serving for eight years. Following
his term on the Baltimore City Council, O’Malley ran for Mayor of Baltimore,
winning with an astounding 90% of the vote.
What is O’Malley’s
political experience?
Martin O’Malley has been close to
politics his whole life as his father was Assistant United Sates Attorney and
his mother worked in congress for close to 30 years. Furthermore, and as I stated
above, O'Malley has plenty of practice in politics. Under the guidance of
O'Malley, Maryland was recognized by the Washington Post as one of the top
states holding down the top states for holding down the cost of college
tuition, and additionally was recognized for having some of the best public
schools in America five years in a row. (MartinOMalley.com).
But is he qualified to
be the next president of the United Sates?
Martin O’Malley is more than
qualified to be the next president of the United States. With the combination
of his past experience in politics, and the results generated during his time
in office, many would argue O’Malley is a fantastic candidate. O’Malley has
only lost one election to date, so it will be interesting to see if after the
2016 election, that number will increase to two.
Understanding O’Malley
and his 2016 campaign
Some information I think is important to understanding O’Malley
and his 2016 campaign would be:
1. This is not his first rodeo.
2.
O’Malley is known for producing results. From my
research, O’Malley is fond of using data driven approaches when producing
desired results. He even created a program called CitiStat which tracked how
well Baltimore government was serving its citizens.
3.
O’Malley is facing scrutiny for his “tough-on-crime”
stance after the death of African-American Freddie Gray at the hands of police.
4.
According to Abc.com, O’Malley stated in one
interview that, “The two things in our household that we'd never dream of
skipping were an election and mass,” –O’Malley.
5.
Despite his religious background, O’Malley is
still for gay marriage and abortion and follows a liberal approach on most
issues.
6.
O’Malley is a family man and even performs in
with his Celtic rock band in local bars.

I did not know O'Mally is religious person but I think it is interesting and good he still approves of gay marriage. Since he approaches most issues like a liberal, I wonder if swing voters will be persuaded to go vote for him since not all issues are approached from a liberal viewpoint. I also like that you added he plays in a band, it is funny and makes him seem like a normal person.
